The UC Davis Farmer's Market is a weekly event where local farmers and artisans showcase fresh, locally-grown produce and goods, embodying sustainability and Davis's rich agricultural heritage. It fosters community, promotes local agriculture, and enhances healthy living, making it an integral and nourishing part of the Davis community.
However, the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic led to a temporary closure, impacting the market's lively atmosphere and visitor engagement. As restrictions eased and students prepared to return to campus after a prolonged period of remote learning, I recognized a unique opportunity to not only celebrate the market's revival but also to reignite the excitement amongst both returning and new students. I aimed to infuse the market with a fresh appeal, creating an inviting space that would excite those coming back to campus after a while and captivate new students who were experiencing the campus in-person for the first time.
With a focus on simplicity and organic appeal, I opted for a minimalist design. The use of irregular, free-flowing organic shapes mirrors the freshness of nature and the locally-grown produce.
I used earthy tones that reflected their rich colors and textures of the vegetables, but I also wanted to make it more bright and fun to reflect the nature of the market. By incorporating vibrant and contrasting colors, the design exudes the dynamic atmosphere of the farmer's market.
Utilizing the designs from the postcards above, I also put together a set of badges to further celebrate the market's revival, as seen below:
Awww, looks like that's the end.
